Board of Directors Select Gary Cunningham as Prosperity Now's Next President

A statement from Asheesh Advani, Prosperity Now Board Chair and Brandee McHale, Chair of the Search Committee:

On behalf of Prosperity Now’s Board of Directors, we are delighted to announce that we have unanimously selected Gary Cunningham as Prosperity Now’s next President.

Finding a new leader for an organization like Prosperity Now is no small task, and our national search left no stone unturned. The opportunity generated interest from an extraordinary array of diverse, highly talented candidates, giving us an exceptional range of choices. It is a clear reflection of the caliber and appeal of the organization that outgoing President Andrea Levere has led with such skill and care over her 27-year tenure, first as staff and then as our chief executive.

We are thrilled that Gary—a longtime friend and Board member of Prosperity Now—will be taking the helm as the organization embarks on its next phase of growth. As many of you know, Gary brings decades of experience as a leader of philanthropic, health care, public policy and educational organizations. He joins us from his role as President and CEO of Metropolitan Economic Development Association (Meda), and previously as Vice President and Chief Program Officer for the Northwest Area Foundation. His expertise—both deep and broad—is an ideal match for the many facets of Prosperity Now’s vision, work and strategy.

Most importantly, Gary brings a spirit of service, a heart for mission, and a deep commitment to advancing equity and opportunity, particularly within communities of color. He is a visionary leader, a collaborative partner, and a trusted mentor and friend. We wholeheartedly believe he is the right next leader to build on Andrea’s legacy, and elevate Prosperity Now to even greater impact.

Gary will formally begin his role as Prosperity Now’s President in August. At that point, Andrea will assume the title of President Emerita. We are deeply grateful to them both for their leadership and their partnership through this important transition.
