A New Initiative to Close the Racial Wealth Divide in a Generation
Prosperity Now has long invested in research and policy action to address racial wealth inequality. We’ve published pivotal reports on the magnitude of the racial wealth divide; championed policies that seek to dismantle its structural pillars; and engaged and supported leaders of color in developing best practices for service delivery and advocacy.
We are proud to announce our new commitment to closing the divide: our partnership with the broad-based political organizing initiative, Liberation in a Generation, which aims to advance economic liberation for people of color. This new, independent organization will be co-led by Jeremie Greer, Prosperity Now’s outgoing Vice President of Policy and Research, and Solana Rice, our outgoing Director of State and Local Policy. Jeremie and Solana will become co-executive directors of Liberation in a Generation.
As new opportunities emerge, Prosperity Now remains committed to elevating leadership from within our strong team. We are very pleased to announce two important promotions. David Newville, formerly Director of Federal Policy, will become Vice President of Policy and Research. David will lead a team that will include local, state and federal policy and advocacy, as well as applied research. Additionally, Lillian Singh – formerly Director of our Racial Wealth Divide Initiative – will advance into a new role as Vice President, Racial Wealth Divide. Lillian will provide strategic direction to our Racial Wealth Divide Initiative team as they continue to realize our vision to close the racial wealth gap in our nation. These internal promotions allow Prosperity Now to better integrate the work of our teams and strengthen our ability to address the needs of the field.
While Liberation in a Generation will operate as an independent organization, we are proud to share that Prosperity Now will be a lead seed funder and a support to the organization as it executes its strategic direction. We see this as an opportunity increase impact and broaden the audience of people committed to closing the racial wealth divide.
Stay tuned for more information and a save-the-date for the official launch of Liberation in a Generation this summer. In the meantime, join us in celebrating David Newville and Lillian Singh in their new roles; and in supporting Jeremie Greer and Solana Rice during their new journey.
